Should You Hire a Personal Trainer for Your Wedding?

personal trainer for wedding

With your wedding preparations full steam ahead there are so many things you have to think of, in order to create the dream wedding your princess aspiring 5 year old self would be proud of.

Now, I’m a pretty chilled and relaxed bride. Miles away from the bridezilla type. But obviously, we all want our weddings to run smoothly, right?

The venue, the décor. The flowers and the bridesmaids all take careful consideration. But the highlight of your search?

The Dress

For your wedding to run smoothly – finding the perfect dress
(& fitting in it!)
Is priority number one.

Your Dream Wedding Dress

Most brides look forward to wedding dress shopping as soon as they are engaged. More often than not, they’ve been secretly planning what they want for years.

Let’s be honest, you’ve probably been pinning on your pinterest wedding board since long before your engagement (Don’t worry, I won’t tell!).

From the mermaid dresses to the famous ball gown. In white, pink, champagne or even blue, it is all up to your, the bride, tastes and preferences. In fact, according to, Queen Victoria is the one who started the trend of wearing white gowns’ back in the 1840’s and before then, brides just wore their best dress.

So you can blame the royals for the ridiculous prices of white gowns!

Nevertheless, even if you get your dream wedding gown, There’s one thing that can make you drastically change your mind.

The fitting…

What if Your Dream Wedding Dress Doesn’t Fit

When selecting your wedding dress, it is important to know your body:

– What parts do you want to accentuate?

– What wedding dress will suit your body type?

– Are you curvy?

– have a wider bust or wider hips?

Knowing what dress will flatter your figure is an important step.

Of course you want to look your best all the time, but especially so on your wedding day. Remember, unless you’re a famous celeb,  It’s unlikely you will ever get photographed the same amount of times again.

And the second thing to consider?

Should I lose weight for my wedding?

This a personal decision. One, that shouldn’t be taken lightly (pun intended).

It’s a big day.

With planning and organising the event, do you have the time and energy to stress over losing weight too?

Whatever you decide, you need to think about it, before settling on a dress.

If you do decide to lose weight for your wedding then you need to…

Plan Early

Exercise is a vital part of daily life, even without an impending wedding. Nevertheless, with any type of event, it is important to plan early to achieve maximum results.

A perfect blend of good dieting habits and effective exercise can help you to achieve the results that you want.

personal trainer

Personal trainer, certified nutritionist and reality TV personality Katie Boyd says that you should immediately start training as soon as you get engaged. Which, should be roughly no less than 6 months to the wedding date.

(Pretty unfortunate for me, considering I only have a 3 month engagement…)

It is also advised that you should shop for your wedding dress when you are about 15 to 20 pounds (6 to 9 kgs) from your ideal weight, to avoid getting dresses that may be ornate and cannot be fitted.

Having a constricted time line and a busy schedule, it can be tough to fit it all in. With that in mind, it may be helpful to get a personal trainer.

In my case, I did – and I feel 100 times better for it.

Getting a Personal Trainer

If you’ve been going to the gym regularly already, you may have a personal workout regime that already works for you.

That is totally fine.

But for your wedding day, why not up the tempo? Getting a certified personal trainer can help you achieve the results that you want faster and and more effectively.

However, you also need to remember that personal trainers are not miracle workers. It still requires hard work, dedication and consistency from your end to get you in tip top shape before your wedding.

Benefits of a Personal Trainer

Personal trainers help you with the much needed boost and push to help you achieve your results effectively and better.

I’ve found that since I’ve started working out alongside a trainer I’m inclined to work harder, possibly because I want them to see my potential and not see me as weak.

With a good nutrition plan (NOT A CRASH DIET) and a detailed fitness plan, it’s possible to lose around 1-2lbs of fat a week. That means, within 6 months or so you could lose around 25 – 50lbs

Most importantly, your personal trainer will help you focus on your areas of weakness.

I have clicky knees and scoliosis, so it’s been great for me to discover new ways to work out, to help strengthen these ailments and get fitter at the same time.

Disadvantages that may come with a Personal Trainer

Everything has its flip side, and with the countdown to my wedding in August, I can outline some of the cons of hiring one.

The pricing obviously varies between trainers, but it can work out pretty costly, especially with the addition of other wedding costs. I’ve paid £200 per 6 sessions, which unfortunately is a little more than I would like to be paying – but y’know, as they say, you get what you pay for.

wedding budget

You have to figure out your wedding budget, and if you’re happy to delegate a chunk of that budget to personal training, then go ahead. If not, then maybe it’s time to reconsider. There’s always the opportunity to use fitness DVD’s, go for a run, cycle, exercise class or just head to the gym – it just depends how motivated you are.

Variation in quality. Some personal trainers are great, some not so. If you’ve worked with a personal trainer before and they’re not available in the ruin up to your big day, you might have to book someone else. Every personal trainer has different styles and techniques. Let them know what you’re into and most of the time they will try and incorporate it, but if they don’t – it may be worth speaking to someone else.

Hiring a personal trainer isn’t necessary. But if reaching your goals and fitting into your perfect dress are your priority, then you may find it beneficial. But don’t think because you’ve hired one it’s going to be easy. It won’t be. If getting fit and healthy was easy work, everyone would be doing it.

So should you hire a personal trainer for your wedding?

Only you can answer that.

But you’ll soon discover, once you get into the mood for training, you’ll probably want to continue after the wedding. Exercise can be addictive, you may not think it now, but wait till you get started.
