For the past year or so I’ve been leading a pretty healthy lifestyle. Every few months I go through a phase of eating a chocolate bar, too many wraps or some other form of junk, But, generally, it’s pretty spot on.
Last weekend I decided it would be a
great idea to eat EXACTLY like I used to when I was a chubby teenager. I did this by spending the weekend munching on shop bought sandwiches, takeaways, cheese and onion crisps, chocolate bars, pringles, pastries and Prosecco.
This is literally how I used to spend every weekend between the age of 15-23–It’s no surprise I got a bit chubbier than I should have been.
How Did I Feel After All That Junk?
- mentally incapable
- and FAT!
I can’t believe I actually used to treat my body and my mind like this on a daily basis.
I had no motivation to go to the gym or perform any kind of exercise, I had an awful head and stomach ache. It’s disgusting.….
If I was to have carried on, punishing my body like that, I would start to gain weight very quickly. I would get sleep issues, mental health issues and in the end, physical health issues.
Why do people do it?
The food I binged on didn’t leave me satisfied. Sure, it filled me up for all of an hour and then, pretty quickly, the hunger pangs would re-appear. I felt hungry, but I wasn’t.
Do you know why that is?
Lack of nutrients… eating Junk food, like I did, is a GREAT way to ensure nutritional deficits. I would have had a lack of both macronutrients and micronutrients–Leading my body into melt-down.

Why do people do it?
Sugar is highly addictive. Your body works on a reward system. The dopamine released by your body when it eats sugary snacks can make you feel amazing at first. but, the more you eat, the more your tolerance builds and your body craves more junk to get the same feeling. It works in a similar way to drug addiction.
it’s convenient. Last weekend left me with a pretty tidy house! With a lack of food prep and washing up I definitely found my kitchen cleaner. It’s easy to see why people head for junk filled ready meals and fast food instead of cooking their own nutritious food. I’ve spent up to 3 hours preparing food before.
I did it. It’s done. Get over it.
Every day is a new day, and to waste it worrying about what you just ate, would be a massive waste.
Hide the chocolate and start chopping the melon–and remember how awful that junk made you feel.
Welcome, the return of the vital nutrients your body needs to function effectively and try to avoid putting your body through that again. People who eat healthier are happier for a reason.
